S Jaishankar meetings in New York

New Delhi, September 22, 2026: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar separately held meetings with his counterparts from France, Ecuador, Slovakia and Switzerland in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Jaishankar reached New York on Sunday to lead the Indian delegation for the UN General Assembly session. He is set to address world leaders during the General Debate on September 26.

Jaishankar calls on French Foreign Minister

Jaishankar started the bilateral engagements by meeting French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.

During the meeting the two leaders discussed regional and global developments including the Ukraine conflict and the Gulf crisis. They also discussed multilateral issues including reform of the United Nations Security Council.

Jaishankar said that regular meetings and telephone conversations between the two countries help maintain the momentum in the India-France Special Global Strategic Partnership.

Negotiations with Ecuador

External Affairs Minister also met Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Roberto Kury.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen economic ties between India and Ecuador including cooperation in energy and pharmaceuticals sectors.

The discussions also covered mobility, training of personnel, development partnership and cooperation in multilateral fora including the United Nations.

Slovak Meeting With

Jaishankar had a discussion with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár during which they reviewed the bilateral agenda.

They also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between India and Slovakia in multilateral fora.

Discuss India-Switzerland Economic Relations

Jaishankar also held a separate meeting with Ignazio Cassis, Foreign Minister of Switzerland.

The talks included bilateral relations, economic cooperation and multilateral issues. The two sides also discussed the progress in their economic relationship after the entry into force of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement.

India attends V4 foreign ministers’ meeting

Earlier, Jaishankar had attended the first meeting of the Visegrád Group (V4) and India Foreign Ministers.

The Visegrád Group consists of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss cooperation between India and the V4 countries.

Jaishankar’s meetings in New York are part of India’s stepped up diplomatic activity during the UN General Assembly session, with talks on bilateral relations, economic cooperation and major regional and global issues.
