Today, benchmark domestic equity indices dropped by about 0.5 percent. The Nifty fell 97 points to conclude at 23 thousand and 996, while the Sensex fell 417 points to trade at 76 thousand and 887. The National Stock Exchange’s broader market indices, however, closed higher. The small-cap 100 increased by 0.4%, while the midcap 100 increased by 0.3%.

The market began the day on a muted note, following conflicting patterns in international stocks. The monthly expiration of Nifty futures and options contracts caused the Sensex and Nifty to lose steam during afternoon trade and finish down. The market was also impacted by persistent geopolitical uncertainty and high crude oil prices.
