A consultation paper on the “Proliferation of Public Wi-Fi Networks in India” was published today by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The Consultation Paper examines the current regulatory environment and highlights obstacles to the expansion of public Wi-Fi networks. Additionally, it requests feedback from interested parties on ways to quicken the expansion of public Wi-Fi infrastructure nationwide.

According to the Ministry of Communication, the Consultation Paper includes the main topics, such as a summary of the public Wi-Fi ecosystem in other nations and important lessons learned from global best practices and foreign experiences. The assessment of the current state of public Wi-Fi in India, including deployment trends and demand patterns, identification of the main problems and obstacles impeding the country’s public Wi-Fi proliferation, and other topics, is also covered in the paper. Additionally, the Ministry stated that the Consultation Paper is now available on TRAI’s website. It further stated that stakeholders are invited to submit written views on the consultation paper by the 25th of the next month and counter-comments by the 8th of June.
