Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors to the United States are set to meet today in Washingtonfor talks aimed to seal potential ceasefire. The meeting will also be attended by US Secretaryof State Marco Rubio. Israel’s ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter will meet his Lebanesecounterpart Nada Hamadeh Moawad.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji has said that the discussions should be used to worktoward implementing a ceasefire and a broader peace agreement. However, Iran-backedarmed group Hezbollah has called cancellation of meeting. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassemcalled on the Lebanese government to cancel the talks, describing the talks as pointless andvowing that the group will continue its retaliation against Israel.
